By far the most sensible solution is to install a local IMAP server, and
use that. Most distributions come with the Uni of Washington IMAP
server which has no configuration and is very simple to use. Simply put
all of your mail into mbox files under ~/mail, install UoW IMAP and
point evolution at it.
