I finally figured out that I have to set ESPEAKER to get Gnome sound on a remote (XDMCP) desktop. Unfortunately while other desktop sound events work, evolution's "play a sound when new mail arrives" does not work. No errors. It's just silent. I am running gnome 2.2 on a RH9 system. Evolution is 1.2.1. What am I missing? -Steve
