[Evolution] About "hide read messages"

Well, use the [] keys, and/or setup an unread vfolder.  That will do
what you're after.

What i meant earlier when i said 'thats not what you want anyway' is
this: you click on a message, it gets set read, the folder auto-updates
and removes the read message, so it goes to the next message, it gets
read automatically, the folder auto-updates and removes the read
message, etc.

All our code is done through several levels of view model controller, so
to make things like this 'work' is impractical at the code level.
Vfolders get around that by only updating when you switch folders.
