If your emails are stored locally, then they are in mbox format.

I was just going to say, "Outlook can import mbox files", but just
looked on my Windows box, and Outlook 97 can not import mbox files.
Maybe newer versions can.

Also, I couldn't find IMAP support in Outlook 97.
