Sadly, it didn't have any effect and I'm still getting the same display
of 'year' view only with the same error message as I first posted.
Thanks for helping me rediscover gconf anyway :-)

Any other clues & ideas welcome.  I'm trying to avoid switching to
Thunderbird with its calendar plugin ;-)
