[Evolution] Pilot and memo database

What are some of the ways folks use Evolution with their pilot/palm
devices?  I am looking for a way to use the syncing process to also
backup the Memopad stuff.  I'm probably doing something wrong.

After I press the sync button sometimes it doesn't even start.  I have
to launch the pilot settings window before it will.

Where is there good info on how Evolution works with the palm-syncing
software?

I'm currently using Evolution 2.0.4.
