Hi,
   Thank you so much for the help.

   As i was trying to resolve the problem, i found that when the error pops
up, and once i reboot the system, the executable works just fine. But some
time later i face the same problem again.
   I am sure i neither changed anything in the configuration nor upgraded my
glade. When i created the project, i created it as a new Gnome Project. If it
has nothing to do with the glade configuration file, What may be the problem?

This really sounds like a system problem.  Think of it this way, why  
would the binary executable have anything to do with glade?  Glade just  
constructs the GUI and maybe the code if you let it, that's it.

Email me offlist and I'll see what I can do to help.  Send whatever  
errors you are getting, glade version, gtk version number, gnome  
version number, and what OS you are using.  It all makes a difference.

Did you mean "When i execute the glade [*project*] from the ....."? If this
is so, then I think there is a problem with the working directory or perhaps
the '.gladep' file (maybe any other project's gladep file is in the persent
directory you are presently in).

Also, where do you see this error -- in the console window or in the Glade
interface?

I hope you are are using glade2 with gtk2.

'that's it', only if you disable 'output build files'.

Hi friends,

I have the same problem... and It's not only when
developing apps using glade! I run KDE (and have also
GNOME installed) and the error message in pop-up
appears when I try to run my glade applications.
In some gnome applications, such as ggv (and glade
itself!), same problems occurs. Apparentelly nothing
in affected at program execution.
When I try to run my GTK applications (not developed
with Glade), this problem don't occur...

Can you be more specific? I am very new to Glade so I am not sure I can
help but I don't really understand the question.

Is this a fileselection dialog? I don't knwo what a fileselection
control box is. Also is this C or C++?

In general to get your the object in a C++ signal handler make sure you
make your Glade object is protected or public.

The GTK+ stock icons are compiled into the GTK+ library. They don't get
installed as separate image files.
If you get the GTK+ source code they are in the gtk/stock-icons
subdirectory.

The GNOME ones are in libgnomeui, in the libgnomeui/pixmaps directory.

There maybe something with the gpointer parameter and an option in glade
with the signal handler but I don't know but...

This is one way to do it.

The printf is there so I could see that I was returning the file I was
selecting.

   I am getting the following error from the autogen.sh

I can't find glade's gnome m4 macros. Please copy them to ./macros and
retry.

I am trying to build a C++ version of my interface.  I have installed
the latest (i think) glademm-2.0.0, gtkmm-2.2.8  and glade-2.0.0.

autogen seems to be looking for  "/gnome/gnome.m4"
Where do I get these macros?

I am running on REDHAT 9.0 if that helps.

I worked great building a C version.

I've using Glade2 for the first time to develop a C++ application.
First, I couldn't find a Glade2 manual. The help is unfortunately very
incomplete. Any online tutorial or something like that for Glade2 (if
possible with examples in C++)?

I need a function to search, something like search files application in
Gnome. When you search for a file with results you get a nice columned
list with results (name of file, folder, etc.) with some nice
scrollbars. How can I achieve this in glade2?

I've seen in Deprecated section the columned list widget=20
but I don't know if I should use it since it is deprecated. How should I
do this?

I've written a tutorial for Glade2.  it's at www.kplug.org/tutorials,  
along with a Glade1 tutorial.  I'm afraid the examples in both are in  
C.  There is no manual per se, yet.  I am currently writing something  
more complete than the tutorial though.

The Deprecated widgets should be around for another 4 years or so.  If  
you want your code to last longer than that, then use the ListView and  
model.  You can find out more on the gtk site, where there are  
tutorials.  Try www.gtk.org.

I have an interesting problem with gnomedb and glade 2.0

I compiled glade 2.0 with gnomedb and it compiled fine.

When I run glade-2, everything initialized and the palette window,
properties window and the main glade window appear.

a gnomedb tab is on the pallete. 

When I press new, It asks me for the type of project to start. It
doesn't matter which button I select, including cancel, the gnomedb then
disappears.

Anybody see this happen before?

In the project options you need to enable gnome support. Then the button
should be enabled.

Note to self: should have sent this to the list immediately instead of 
to Brent's private mail.

You can populate the widgets right after the call to create the window,
e.g. create_window1(). Or is there a problem with doing that?

This may or may not be relative to Glade but I thought I'd ask you guys
since I"m using glade to develop my gui's.

Ok, I have written a my-sql.c and my-sql.h file that contains my
functions for performing mysql operations.

A few questions.

What do I change in order to compile this into my application when I run
make?

What do I change in order for configure to automatically search for the
mysql libraries. I don't want my user to have to specify any
environmental variables such as CFLAGS and LDFLAGS when they run
configure


Please don't flame me for the simple questions. I'm trying to learn. :-)
to program in c again.

Edit the src/Makefile.am, and add your .c and .h there, minding to use a
TAB at the beginning of line you add.

Below, extend in a similar way the line with the LDADD definition to
include a  -Lpath/to/lib and -lyourlib

That should be all. This _is_ in the FAQ of glade, something every newbie
should read...

Can I also suggest NOT to use reply to another mail to put in a new
question?

Hi,
Something that is very much needed is a way to change the "layering"
of widgets that you place on the form/window.

I use a "fixed" widget as a scratch-pad to place a bunch of widgets
like buttons at the positions i want and can move them around how i
want without having to worry about first placing the right vbox/hbox
containers.

Then, i'll create another window and place the right vboxes and hboxes
in it to contain all the buttons and other widgets, so that it looks
like the first "prototype" window. I'll then delete the first window.

However, if i have a bunch of buttons on the first "prototype"
window, then decide to place a frame that surrounds all the buttons,
then all the buttons are hidden behind it. What is needed is something
in a right-click pop-up menu that says "send to back", so that all the
buttons are displayed "in front" of the frame widget.

lookup_widget is created on the fly for you project by glade. It is in a
module called suport.c in you project/src directory. There isn't a whole
lot of documentation for it in that file but you can look at the source.

a file, a function or a library.

If you want to add your own file, go to the glade FAQ, it is clear.

It's not template as you call it. Glade is not an IDE, it's just an
interface builder. So, it can either create GTK+ interfaces or GNOME
interfaces.

BTW: I am using C.
I am having a problem printing out the data I pass to a callback function.
 I am using the g_signal_connect. The function is getting
called and if I hard code the data it prints just FINE, but I can't.

Here is my stuff:

1. This is the struct holding the data:
  typedef struct my_paths {
     char bin[1000];
     char doc[1000];
  } MY_PATHS;

2. This is a chunk of the code that sets up the callback:

  MY_PATHS       mydata;

  strcpy(mydata.bin,"TESTING");
  printf("Data is <%s> before callback activated\n",mydata.bin);
  printf("Data is at %p before callback activated\n",mydata);

  g_signal_connect(G_OBJECT (tableCells[r][6]),
                   "button_press_event",
                   G_CALLBACK (selectActionBin),
                   (gpointer) &mydata);

3. This is the callback function
void selectActionBin(MY_PATHS    *data)
{
    printf("In CB, data = <%s>\n",data->bin);
    printf("In CB, data is at %p\n", data);
    printf("In CB, data is at %p\n", &data);
                                                                    
           
    gtk_widget_show (selectDialog_window); <--- This shows up as expected.
                                                                    
           
}

4. Finally, this is the output.
  ./testIt
  ---- The following prints out from #2 above
  Data is <TESTING> before callback activated
  Data is at 0x504f4f50 before callback activated

  ---- The following prints out from #3 above
  In CB, data = <>          <---- I want to see my data here :{
  In CB, data is at 0x80b2a30
  In CB, data is at 0xbfffeb40



BTW, the following data prints out in the CB function, given the type
of data is changed to char *data.
          g_signal_connect(G_OBJECT (tableCells[r][6]),
                          "button_press_event",
                          G_CALLBACK (selectActionBin),
                          "POOP");
